March 2024 Newsletter

Good day and welcome to what looks to be an early spring! but don’t let that fool you. The gardens are still sleeping so in the meantime, there is still plenty going on with the horticultural society.

Your Board of Directors are warming up to the new season and looking forward to many activities this year. Watch our website for the event listing, and keep an eye on your email for unscheduled plantings, and Town of Petawawa garden maintenance opportunities for the gardens we have planted.

Recent Activities

It was a fairly quiet winter, so it was nice to get out a see what is up and coming for the season. Seedy Sunday in Rankin which is hosted by Seeds of Creation, occurred last weekend and was a raging success with a packed venue. Thank you to all the volunteers who came out to help at our booth.

Garden Clubs of Ontario Judging School:
The Garden Clubs of Ontario (GCO) are planning a Design Judging School that will start in 2025. The introductory notice is attached for your information.

Anyone wanting to learn more about judging or entering design in flower shows would be welcome. If you are interested in attending the school or in learning more about it, please send in your name, contact information, name of your Garden Club or Horticultural Society to the GCO Registrar: Marie Decker at

Friendly Reminder

Keep to your usual schedule outside in your yard and gardens and wait until temperatures maintain above 10C. We may well get more snow and sub-zero temperatures, and the insects and wildlife are not yet ready to emerge. Have a wonderful spring and hopefully we will see you on Monday at 7PM at the Rotary Club.
